AstraZeneca Flexible Workspace
The aim of iWork is to create spaces that allow people to express their personal preference over where they work. AstraZeneca is a global, innovation driven biopharmaceutical business with a primary focus on its discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines.
Southernsbroadstock was appointed to design, manufacture and install furniture into AstraZeneca’s Middlewood Court Site. The objective was to provide an environment that was visually stimulating and modern but with plenty of freedom, so their people could choose a style of working that was most natural.
Activity Based Working.
Working with AstraZeneca’s Project Team, Southernsbroadstock were introduced to the iWork principle based upon activity based working where workplace environments are created around the activities that take place in the space. The furniture supplied and installed included Southernsbroadstock Bench desking, designed and manufactured in-house, Orangebox and Connection soft seating, project desking and meeting tables from Orangebox, meeting and breakout seating from Casala, Protocol and Connection, and acoustic curtains from Lammhults.
The Solution.
The refurbishment provided a balance of allocated and flexible desking within an open plan office. In some areas, where ways of working allowed it, they introduced a ratio of three desks per four users. WiFi is available throughout the building including cafe areas. Paperwork filing is discouraged, with individual lockers provided in a single area to store personal items. A wide choice of soft seating, project desking, bench style tables and chairs and meeting tables are provided to facilitate informal and formal meetings of different sizes.
