Didsbury High School
Didsbury High School opened its doors for the first time in September 2019, welcoming 11-18-year-olds into a brand new school building. Run by the highly respected Laurus Trust, the aim of the new school was to replicate the outstanding education already provided by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) – named in the Sunday Times ‘Parent Power’ Top 20 comprehensive schools in the country.
Didsbury High School sets out to offer students extensive access to state-of-the-art facilities in a new premises behind Didsbury Point.
The Aim.
Southernsbroadstock was tasked with managing a comprehensive furniture installation within a brand-new high school building including the manufacture, supply, delivery and installation of all loose, fixed & bespoke furniture within an £875,000 budget. As an educational space it was important for the ‘look and feel’ of the environment to be considered at all stages of the project. All the products had to seamlessly match the same specification and colours as the contemporary and neutral theme of the new building.
The Scope.
The project needed to be completed so that the new school could be opened in September 2019 – the start of the academic year. The remit included the production and installation of sports equipment, design technology machinery, as well as all furniture, fixtures and fittings for the science laboratories, dining areas, open spaces and offices. The project included a challenging programme that involved working in close collaboration with BAM construction. The variety of products required meant that we had to fully utilise our in-house manufacturing facility and our extensive supply chain.
“It is important in an educational environment to create a warm, welcoming and modern atmosphere and we are delighted with the look and feel of our brand-new school. The furniture and finish really brings each of the spaces to life! The project went extremely smoothly despite some challenging deadlines and the response from teachers, parents and students has been extremely positive.”

The Approach.
Southernsbroadstock worked closely with BAM Construction and the school senior leadership team to ensure a seamless process from design to installation. Our project managers attended numerous client engagement meetings and design team meetings. Our design team developed the scheme in Revit and provided BAM construction with certified BIM level 2 information. Our site management team worked closely with the BAM site management team. Our Customer services team liaised with more than 40 supply chain companies and co-ordinated the product delivery schedule.
The Solution.
A dedicated project team was created to work closely with the BAM project group to ensure the delivery was on time and on budget. The Southernsbroadstock teams worked closely together behind the scenes and ensured products had been manufactured and procured earlier than the build programme, stored them and then delivered to site as each phase became available. Our site teams worked in partnership with numerous sub-contractor trades on site and co-ordinated product assembly and product placement to suit room availability. Our project managers also completed continual quality checks and assessments relating to health & safety on site.
