Leeds Beckett University Carnegie School of Sport
Southernsbroadstock has worked with Leeds Beckett University to furnish its new £45m state-of-the-art Carnegie School of Sport Building on Headingley Campus in time for its opening in September 2020. Leeds Beckett University is committed to creating inspirational teaching and learning spaces, and the new Carnegie School of Sport is a testimony to that.
The 90,000 sqft landmark building is a significant addition to the university’s estate and further boosts its growing stature in helping shape the future of sport. Southernsbroadstock designed and delivered a furniture solution that inspires a professional and forward-thinking atmosphere throughout the building.
Beautiful Spaces.
Alongside an impressive 60m indoor athletics track, the building includes a nutrition teaching kitchen, high-performance strength and conditioning facility, human movement research laboratory, two world class environmental chambers, and a performance analysis lab. There are also networking spaces for students, staff and visitors, a cafe, and informal teaching space. All of which have been furnished by Southernsbroadstock.
The building has been described as a base for Leeds Beckett’s undergraduate and postgraduate research programmes. Moreover, it will be utilised by elite athletes and sporting partners including the Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club, Leeds United FC and The Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
Facilitating Special Requirements.
As well as delivering outstanding furniture, Southernsbroadstock put in place several special requirements to enhance the functionality of the building.
The boardroom was fitted with a stunning bespoke 7.2M Orangebox Lano boardroom table with power and data allowances. Provision for power was also installed throughout the breakout spaces, allowing students more freedom to work where they please. The majority of the soft breakout seating was provided by a Swedish company Offect, and assembled by Southernsbroadstock.
Bespoke hexagonal desks were installed with DDA allowance provided by Frem Group and allowances were made for both Apple Mac and Windows Desktop computers. A bespoke “freemote” power/data/headphone solution was also provided, enabling easier use of the computers.
Agile Project Management.
Southernsbroadstock originally started a dialogue with the Leeds Beckett University in June 2019 with a plan to install the furniture in January 2020.
The furniture was received and ready by October 2019. Southernsbroadstock and Leeds Beckett then worked together collaboratively to secure an optimum storage solution as building works took longer than expected to complete.
The delivery and installation was rescheduled for June 2020 and was completed in two weeks. The building is now ready to open its doors to students, staff and athletes in September 2020.
