Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week at Southernsbroadstock!

This year’s theme is ‘Movement: moving more for your mental health’. Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week – bringing together the UK to focus on getting good mental health.🌍

Regular physical activity is known to improve mental health, quality of life, and wellbeing. It also helps prevent and treat many severe diseases. Despite these benefits being well established, over a third of UK adults do not meet the recommended amount of activity.⚠️

This topic is close to our hearts. Here at Southernsbroadstock, all aspects of Mental Health are key considerations within the workplace and throughout our projects, to ensure we are catering to not only the needs of the masses but those who are severely underrepresented too.💛  A ‘one size fits all’ approach doesn’t when it comes to mental health, which is why we do what we can to assist our team in the best possible ways for them. Throughout this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week which runs from 13th to 19th May, we will be prioritising the mental health of our team. 


With inclusivity being a big part of our business, ensuring we create the best spaces for our clients, internal support is no different. We aim to support everyone with their mental health.

We have organised for an expert to come into Southernsbroadstock and run an insight and breathing-focused yoga session that will give them time to pause, reflect and relax. This felt like the perfect activity to support this year’s theme of bringing people together and ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’.

Outcome:

Two wonderful sessions for Mental Health Awareness Week, on Tuesday 14th at Southernsbroadstock.

We’re honoured to have an expert deliver a breathing, stretching and wellness session to our lovely men of Macclesfield in the morning. A first for each of the participants, taking a moment to better understand their body and mind connectivity. With everyone giving their 100%, it was a pleasure to witness the immediate positive affects on each individual, hoping they can take the knowledge into their daily lives.💛✨💭

Breathing accurately, only for 5 minutes a day can drastically improve your physical and mental health. Move more, stress less🙏🏼

The session at Wingates was filled with our fabulous females and our lovely Upholstery Supervisor Jimmy. Similar to this morning at Macclesfield, our Wingates colleagues came together to join our expert’s breathing, stretching and meditation session to improve mental and physical wellbeing. Each event was catered specifically to the participants, to reduce stress, maximise breathing capacity, and increase confidence.✨💛

Research has shown that stretching your muscles with slow, deep exhales will activate your parasympathetic nervous system. This activation results in an increase of blood flow and endorphins, resulting in a feeling of calmness and relaxation.💭
